In 1971, in Detroit, a young lad, Ashok Shah, at the very tender age of 21 was eager and keen to get ahead in life. Instead of landing a summer job at one of the automobile companies, he preferred to sell travel tickets to his colleagues to visit their motherland, India. At that time, for only $300.00 one could purchase a roundtrip return ticket from the USA to INDIA.
With tremendous demand & unexpected success at this young age, Ashok was given the confidence to set foot and embark on a successful journey from engineering into the travel field. This led to the inception of Ashok Travels in Detroit. Soon, Ashok Travels shifted from Detroit to Toronto due to the large number of South Asians residing in Toronto at that time. Toronto became the home for this solid and stable corporation.
Since 1973, Ashok Travels has been established. However, it was incorporated in 1975. Ashok Travels became a household name in the South Asian community in the early 80’s with the take over of Jumbo World Travel. With the amalgamation of both the corporations Ashok Travels catered to the needs of South Asians in Toronto in a very large scale.
